Monday Morning Check-In: I’m returning!

Good morning everyone!  I’m returning to normal blogging schedule this month after a month and more off.  I went into the details in another post if you care to read why I’ve been absent.  Not a lot of reading went on this weekend.  Spent Saturday garage sale shopping and Sunday was chore day. I did try to listen to an audiobook that I quickly DNK.  I usually don’t write reviews for books I don’t finish but will usually post a few sentences over on Goodreads if you want to follow me there to see what books I’m giving up on. Been quite a few lately…  I was approved for a recent ARC of the next Charley Davidson series!!!  Now I need to decide if I want to dive into that or read the library book I checked out for the second time.  I also need to finish up The Dark Tower which I have kind of lost interest in.  I looked at the synopsizes and reviews for the next six books and decided I’m not going to reread them. I was not a fan of how the series ended and at this point in my life, I’m not even sure why I’m hanging on to them.  Next time I clean my library they might end up weeded.  Working in a library has made me a bit less nostalgic in regards to my books.  Oh sure, there are some that I want to keep forever but many of them I let them sit for a year or two and then decide I don’t really need to keep them.  I have a feeling it will get to the point where I only keep the ones that have been personalized to me.   That’s okay, makes room for all the new books that I want to read!  Well, that’s all I got today.  I’ve used this time to ice my arm, dealing with a tennis elbow, and now I really need to go let the birds out before there is rioting.  Happy reading!

Top Ten Tuesday: I give up…

Top Ten Tuesday

Welcome to another contribution to the wildly popular Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.  This week they ask us to share lists on the following:

July 25, 2017: Series I am giving up on.

There comes a time when we all have to face facts, tastes change. We evolve as readers and books or series we once enjoyed might not work for us anymore.  Or perhaps too much time has past and we don’t remember what is going on anymore.  Whatever the reason sometimes we just stop turning to authors or series we once enjoyed in favor of something shiny and new.  Below are ten series that I am removing from to-read list today.  I’m not saying that I will never consider picking up the next book in these series but it is becoming more and more unlikely.  It was fun while it lasted but it is time to move on.

Ten series that I am putting out to pasture.

  1. Broken Heart Tails (Broken Heart, #10) Broken Heart Series: This was such a fun series that I enjoyed once upon a time.  The author is quite funny and the series was hilarious at times.  I was keeping up with this one and then the author didn’t publish any new books for a while and I moved on to other series.  I tried to go back but the book I attempted just didn’t work for me and so I fell even further behind.  I need to just own up that I probably won’t be returning to this world. Weeded.
  2. Tracking the Tempest (Jane True, #2) Jane True Series: Read the first book in this series and just never got around to picking up the second.  Now I don’t even remember what happen in the first book.  Time to let it go. Weeded.
  3. Defy the Dawn (Midnight Breed, #14) Midnight Breed Series: This one pains me to say goodbye to.  I really enjoyed this series and it is still the best example of a series reinventing itself that I’ve seen.  Another case of I didn’t get review book and put off requesting and Inter Library Loan to keep up and then I see that many of the next works are actually novellas inside anthologies.  I’m afraid I just don’t have the time to keep track of what book I need to request anymore.  Goodbye dear friend.  Weeded.
  4. Eternal Sin (Mark of the Vampire, #6) Mark of the Vampire Series:  I think this is a case of the author moved on without me.  She hasn’t published a book in this series in some time.  So I don’t feel too bad about letting this one go.  It was a great series while it lasted.  Weeded.
  5. Dragon Storm (Dragon Falls, #2) Dragon Falls: This one I feel a tad bit guilty over.  I was gifted the first two books in the series and then bought the third… I read the first one and attempted the second and it just didn’t work for me.  I think it might be time to break up with this author in a case of it isn’t you it is me.  I’m not into the fluffy fun paranormal romance as much as I used to be.  Only a few authors do I actually enjoy anymore.  Weeded, but not deleted from my Nook I might go back some day with this one.
  6. The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire (Half-Moon Hollow, #3) Half-Moon Hollow Series: I’ve tried time and time again to request review books in this series and have been turned down repeatedly.  Not big deal except that it means the series doesn’t often make it into my reading priority list, top that with the need to request the books through inter library loan through my library and it means that I am now three books behind in this world.  I’m giving up.  No mater how much I enjoy the series it obviously isn’t a priority for me and I’m going to move on.  Weeded.
  7. Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4) Throne of Glass Series: This was a kick-ass series and so popular that I could never get my hands on it at the library.  So I waited and waited and now there are two or three books out and I don’t care anymore how it ends up.  So I’m moving on.  Maybe someday when the series is done I’ll come across them while thrifting and pick the series back up again.  Weeded.
  8. Cain's Identity (Scanguards Vampires, #9) Scanguards Vampires Series:  I DNF one of these books a long time ago and meant to pick up the next in series to see if the story still worked for me.  Didn’t happen so now its time to let this world go.  Weeded.
  9. Accidentally...Cimil? (Accidentally Yours, #4.5) Accidentally Yours Series: I think I might own at least two of the remaining three books in this series…. I’ve not made time to get to them and I don’t think I ever will.  I enjoyed this one while it lasted but it fell victim to too long of a wait between releases.  Weeded, but not deleted.
  10. Outlander (Outlander #1) Outlander Series: Several people have recommended this series to me.  I’ve not started it and I probably won’t ever get around to reading it.  Why?  I’m not a huge fan of historical romance and there are a ton of books in the series and they are all bricks.  My reading pace has slowed down considerably.  I hate to say it but a thousand some page book by an author I’ve never tried before just isn’t in the cards for me currently.  Maybe I will look into this one as an audiobook selection from my library.  Weeded before even starting.

There you have my list for this week.  What series have you moved on from recently?

Monday Morning Check-In: Let it go…

Monday Morning Check-In

Good Monday morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend and were able to get in some reading and relaxation in this abbreviated weekend.  My weekend was spent socializing, being a delegate for Bernie at the local DNC convention and finally a day of  thrifting with the hubby.  I didn’t read one single page beyond the convention booklet.  Oh well I’ll finish up my current read this afternoon while I work on laundry and hopefully get a review posted for you this evening.

Now for the topic of today’s post.  Maybe it was the 8:30 cappuccino on top of a time change but I found myself organizing and weeding books on my to-read bookcase last night at about 12:30 last night, because that’s the hour all half-baked plans seem to start….  Anyway I’ve decided to channel my inner Elsa (no I’ve not seen the movie, but I’ve heard that damn song enough) and let it go when it comes to some of the books that have been sitting there waiting for their turn to be read.  I have to face facts and admit that I will never read some of them and that’s okay.

All of this was prompted by a case of books I brought home for $1 from thrifting.  There were a few books I was interested in, but the majority of the books in the box I had already read.  I asked how much and the guy wanted to sell the whole box for $1 and I couldn’t pass them up.  I  switch out the nicer copies with ones I owned and put the rest up for sale on eBay in lots by author.  After all of those books were sorted out and I was adding the keepers to my bookcase I decided enough was enough I needed to weed. So I did at 12:30 this morning I started sorting and pulling books and I have a huge box of books I am going to let go because I am never going to read them, ever. Sadly most of them I just lost interest in, reading taste change and I need to make room for what I want to read.

Here they are all the books I’ve given up on ready for me to remove from my Goodreads account and either put up for auction or for trade.  I feel kind of liberated over this whole project.  I have also gone through my bookcases of read books and started removing titles and entire series that I am no longer interested in there too. All of this does not mean I no longer love books, it simply means I’m growing as a reader and learning to let go.  Just because you once fancied a book doesn’t mean you always will.  As readers we sometimes  take this all to seriously.  Unless we are being paid for our reviews we are under no obligations to finish a book, keep a book, or in some cases even start it in the first place.  Reading is our hobby and sometimes our own ideas and rules can suck the fun right out of it.  Today I took another step in declaring my reading independence.

Happy reading everyone!
