Monday Morning Check-In: VOTE!!!

Good Election Day Eve everyone!  Tomorrow is it, the most important mid-term election of our lives and I’ve decided today I’m going to implore you to take the time and exercise your constitutional right and vote tomorrow.  I have included some links below to help you find your polling place and to research your ballot so not only will you vote but you will be an informed voter!  I will be spending my day tomorrow working the polls in my community, a job I take seriously and love doing.  It can be a pretty long day though if you all don’t show up to vote.  We will be there 16 hours regardless, but your turning out to vote makes the day go a lot quicker.

America, on the whole, has some of the worst voter turnouts in the world.  Truly it is disgraceful, something like 56%.   This can easily be turned around if everyone simply goes too the polls tomorrow.  To take from a meme I’ve been seeing shared on Facebook please vote as if your life and rights depend on it!  Congress has some pretty awful ideas in the works for after the election if we don’t send them a message on November 6th.  So get to the polls and make them hear you!  Make them remember that they work for the people and we will hold them accountable.  Vote!

Remember, remember the sixth of November and Vote!

Monday Morning Check-In: Busy Week

Good Monday morning everyone.  We had some beautiful weather here in Eastern Iowa over the weekend and the husband and I managed to get the rest of the garden planted.  I also brought home a new hammock that I hope to spend many hours reading in this summer.  Not a lot of reading done this weekend.  I gave up on an audiobook that just wasn’t my type of book.  I know the dark murder thrillers are all the rage but I’m not a fan.  I don’t want to be inside someone’s head as they plan to abduct, rape, and then kill someone.  No thank you.

This week is going to be awfully busy.  Tomorrow is the primary day in Iowa and I’m in charge of my local polling place so it will be a long slow day.  Hey, I might get some reading done.  Since I’m in charge though I will be going to pick up everything today and dropping it off on Wednesday before work.  Thursday I have a county fair meeting and the last two days will be work, I think, I forgot to write down my schedule for the rest of the week…

Hope the weather is as lovely for you where you are today and have a great week!  If you live in Iowa please go out and vote tomorrow.  Primaries are even more important than general elections as it decides who gets to run for each seat.

Monday Morning Check-In: Lots of DNF….

I feel like I’m stuck in another loop of DNFing titles lately.  I just can’t seem to find anything that scratches my reading itch.  Two or three review books didn’t work for me and I decided to not review them.  Then I was so excited to try listening to the first book in the Cat and Bones series by Frost and had to abandon that one pretty quick.  Not that I don’t enjoy the series but the narrator just did not work for me.  Her British accent for Bones was going to ruin the character for me.  Instead of a sexy accent, it came off sounding creepy and pretty fake.  Now I know I could not pull off a foreign accent, with the exception of my husband’s on occasion, so I don’t fault the voice artist for trying I simply didn’t want to have that voice in my head any time I decide to return to the series and its spin-offs.

Busy week as I am working the city elections tomorrow and will not be posting a Top Ten Tuesday.  I need to get laundry, dishes, and everything I need for a 15 hour day tomorrow and I wouldn’t mind getting some reading in today as I have a book talk at work next Monday and I’ve not even started the book yet.  It is only about 180 pages so not a big deal but it would be nice to get it read.  I should be back the following week but not really a topic for me as I don’t have kids.  I have thought up a spin on the topic so I won’t be skipping two weeks in a row.

Well have a great week and don’t forget to vote in your city elections tomorrow.  Depending on where you are it will most likely be a slow day for your poll workers.  Going to vote, even if you have uncontested races, gives them something to do and makes the day go faster for them.

Happy Reading!

Monday Morning Question: Reading Habits

Alright so I know it isn’t technically morning anymore, but I was busy with fall chores and yelling at political callers and didn’t get around to posting this morning.  Anyway…Welcome to another Monday Morning Question.  This morning I am stealing the idea for my question from those participating in the BookBlogWriMo.  They were to share about where they read today and I thought it sounded like a good topic, so I stole it.  Where do you like to read?  How do you like to read?  What type of environment?

Personally my two favorite spots to read are my couch and my bed.  I have a tender tailbone and sometimes sitting hurts, so I do a lot of my reading laying down with a book propped up on my belly. I’ve had people ask how can you do that without falling asleep, well when you spend enough of your free time laying down instead of sitting you just get used to it. I do have a cosy little reading nook that I created in my living room, but need to get a cushion to make it a bit more comfortable.  Until then the cats have taken it over and I’m afraid it could be quite the fight to get my space back…either that or they will just sit on my lap while I try to read…   I will read most anywhere though, but do need it to be quiet.  I get distracted by ambient noise so doctor’s offices, trains, airplanes, etc make it difficult to get into a book.  I find myself reading the same page over and over again.  I have been known to carry earplugs with me though and that usually takes care of the problem.

Being tomorrow is election day and I am a poll worker…I would like to encourage everyone to get out and VOTE!  Democracy is a process and part of that is participating when it is time to select our representatives.  It just takes minutes and is so important.  Remember no talking politics in the polling place and NO ballot selfies to post on Facebook.  Its illegal.
