I think that I’ve been living in denial for some time when it comes to this blog. I kept trying to find a way to renew my interest in book blogging but never managed to rekindle the passion I once had. My interests have simply changed and I’m no longer interested in running a blog anymore. Read What I Like will not be going away, my reviews will remain on this site as long as WordPress keeps it around but I will not be adding fresh contest any longer. This break I took in December has shown me that I simply don’t want to actively post book reviews any longer. Net Galley calls us professional readers a pretty accurate description because while book blogging is a lot of fun it is also a lot of work. At this point in my life, I would like to return to being a casual reader writing reviews only when the mood strikes me.
I have felt for some time that my reviews are not fresh, that I tend to repeat the same statements in each review. I also feel like I am repeating myself each Top Ten Tuesday and selecting the same books over and over. It’s time to move on. I want to thank you for supporting my blog and coming back to read what I thought about the books I read. Your comments have delighted me over the years.
Since I am not going to be deleting Read What I Like if my interests drift back I may start posting again, but for now any reviews I do post for the books I read will be found on Goodreads moving forward. After all, I’m not giving up reading simply not blogging any longer. I will be deleting my Facebook page and blog Instagram.
Greetings everyone! I was working on next week’s Top Ten Tuesday post and noticed that Read What I Like now has over 1,ooo followers! YAY! It might seem like a small number compared to other blogs the same age as this one but I’m impressed and thrilled that so many want to hear what I think about the books I read. Especially since I don’t actively try to promote this blog and have long since given up on trying to respond to comments. I read them and appreciate them but have poor blogging skills… Anyway, that so many people found this blog on their own and have managed to stick around is great! Kudos to you, especially since I have been posting significantly less recently. I hope that is about to change though.
I’ve been toying with adding new feature posts to the blog. I do a weekly check-in post, participate in Top Ten Tuesday, and do a monthly wrap-up post. This seems like a great opportunity to see what content you all would like to see at Read What I Like. So please share in the comments your suggestions! Would you like more blog memes (like Top Ten Tuesday, suggest other ones you either participate in or follow), challenges, giveaways? Non-bookish posts, thoughts about reading in general, movie reviews? A monthly review of something Star Trek? The possibilities are endless, kinda…within reason… Or do you simply want me to get my act together and do a better job of responding to comments?
For the meanwhile, I do think a giveaway is in order for hitting 1,000 followers and I will think up something over the weekend. Probably a gift card to Amazon so that it can be open to international followers. I will also make following the blog a requirement for winning. Look for more details next week.
For now, thanks so much for making this hobby worthwhile! Please, leave your suggestions for a new blog feature below.
Just wanted to take a moment and say thank you to all my followers as I celebrate the third anniversary of my blog Read What I Like. So thank you for the likes and comments and I’m still thrilled that you find my opinion about what I read entertaining.
It seems hard to believe both that I have only been blogging for three years, it feels like it should be longer, and at the same time that it has actually been three years because I feel like such a novice to all this. The blog still feels small to me and that is by design. I’m not looking for major page hits or tons of comments, I simply want a small little corner where I can share my love or loathing for the books I read. A highly successful blog is a lot of work and I’m not interested in that. For now, I simply want my blog to remain an authentic extension of my reading hobby. This space started out for me and it shall remain that way; that is probably why it still surprises me that almost 1000 people have subscribed.
Don’t look for a lot of changes. I have scaled back some of my ambition over the past year as life continues to get in the way of my reading. I will continue to be selective in my review request books and focus on reading all those titles I put on my TBR list ages ago. The blog is named Read What I Like for a reason and I want to get that passion for reading books I like again. In the beginning of the blog, I got too wrapped up in memes, givaways, review deadlines, challenges, etc. While all of that was fun, it was also a lot of work and sucked some of the joy out of simply reading. Blogs come and go and I want to have staying power, so that means cutting some of the stuff that kills my joy. I hope you understand, I appreciate you all but the blog is going to stay small scale. I’m about authenticity in my reviews and when I get too gimmicky I feel like the blog doesn’t represent who I am.
My name is Amy and I am a reader. I read books and review them honestly for you. Thanks for being a part of my passion.
Good Morning my loyal followers! I want to take this moment to thank you for subscribing or following this blog. In one week Read What I Like will be two years old! Two years, I can’t believe it. I can’t believe you still want to hear what I think about the books I read. I know I’ve been slowing down in some of the posts, but I am still committed to this blog whether it has 10 followers or 1000. To thank you all for the support I wanted to hold a giveaway.
What you could win!
Now for details and a few rules. The prize is one Whatever is Lovely coloring book and a butterfly good-luck charm. I’m sorry but the giveaway is only open to US and Canadian residence. I’ll try to arrange a world-wide giveaway soon, I promise. To enter you can visit my giveaway tab/page, my Facebook page, or through the link to the Rafflecopter link below. The giveaway went live today and will end on Wednesday February 24, 2016 (my two-year anniversary!). The winner will be mentioned by name on my blog, Facebook page, and Twitter.
Good Monday morning everyone out there in the blogophere! I actually got my act together and wrote this post up on Sunday night and scheduled it so there would be a Monday Morning Check-In this week. Feeling pretty proud of myself this morning. I know that it has been a while since I shared a check-in post and there is no good excuse except that life got in the way. Hopefully 2016 will bring us more consistency in my reading and blogging. The year is not over yet though and I should probably save goals for another post.
Well I made it, I completed my reading challenge over on Goodreads. I only had to change my reading goal twice… I still hope to read another two books before the end of the year, but as of right now my reading total for 2015 is 86 books. A totally respectable number, but probably not my best effort. Next year I am not going to play these little games with Goodreads and only pledge to read 52 books and just see how many I end up reading. As to the other two challenges I “signed-up” for…. Um, yeah not going to finish either of those. They have now become reading challenges I hope to eventually finish. Next year I don’t think I will be taking on any new challenges and just focus on getting back into my reading and blogging grove. This is supposed to be FUN! Not work, and this year the blog has felt more like work than a hobby. I also have plans for a second blog, so my plate is going to be full enough thank you very much. Perhaps I will challenge myself to read some selected titles that have been on my Nook or to-read bookcase for some time now. We will see what I come up with.
I would also like to send a big THANK YOU to the ‘Santa’ that send me two books from my post Top Ten Tuesday: Dear Santa,. That was such a wonderful surprise and really touched my heart. This time of year is pretty frustrating for me as I struggle with the pull to want to celebrate the holiday from my youth (prior to mother-loss) and knowing that it will always be a disappointment so why bother. Your kind act brought me a moment where I felt as it once was. Thank you.
Only four days left and hopes to read one or two more books before the big New Year’s celebration at my house (aka my husband’s version of Christmas…) and I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and a great New Year. Happy Reading!
Welcome to the 200th post here at Read What I Like! Can’t believe I’ve reached 200 posts already, its just been a little over six months that I’ve been blogging. Also celebrating reaching 203 official subscribers to the blog, I know the side bar says differently, but it takes Twitter and Facebook followers into account too. Thank you to everyone who follows the blog and I’m so delighted that you enjoy reading my opinions on books, reading and the reviews I post. I promise to continue to provide honest & spoiler free (or at least warn you first) reviews of the books I read. Reading and books are passions of mine and it means so much to me to be a part of this community of readers I’ve found here online.
I was planning on doing this anyway, but what a happy coincidence… Read What I Like is going to be hosting a book giveaway. This time it is for a signed copy of my husband’s book Crack in the Curtain. To enter just visit the giveaway page, link found to the top of the menu to the right, read the rules, or most of them, and fill out the form at the bottom of the page. Entries will need to be submitted by 8 a.m. Saturday Sept 20, 2014, and only open to U.S. Residents (damn red tape). Good Luck and thank you for all the support!
