Sometimes being the grim reaper really is, well, grim. And since Charley’s last case went so awry, she has taken a couple of months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above…or at least get dressed. It becomes clear something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane. But the more they refute the woman’s story, the more Charley believes it.
In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, is out of prison and out of Charley’s life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved.
Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans in this hilarious fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling series.
Continuing to enjoy my reread listen to the Charley Davidson series. Also getting a ton of knitting done because all I want to do is sit and listen and laugh. Of course, there are plenty of moments that have me in tears and blushing at what is being read to me. These books are definitely not safe for work or commute in public transit without headphones.
Book four brought me quite a few surprises which shocked me in how much I did not remember. There were one or two scenes in there that I had completely forgotten. I remember zipping right through this series when I read it the first time so perhaps I should reread more of the book I finished in a day because in my rush to read them I missed a lot apparently.
Listening to this book and the last one so close together made me realize there is a bit of a plot hole with a character that had died in the previous book. I could have sworn he was dead-dead but he ended up showing up again in this book. There was a little explanation as to what happened but it felt a little fishy. Will need to go and read other’s reviews about this character and see if anyone else feels the same. Don’t get me wrong I’m happy they are still in the book it is just something feels off about what happened.
I have plenty of knitting to go, knitting a blanket for my husband, and plenty of books to go! Was a little disappointed that there was no author interview at the end of this book but I guess I can look some up on YouTube if I want to hear more of what Ms. Jones has to say about the series…
My Rating: 5 Stars
