Top Ten Tuesday: Happy Halloween

Top Ten Tuesday

Welcome to another contribution to the wildly popular Top Ten Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.  This week she asks us to share lists on the following:

October 30: Halloween/Creepy Freebie

I’m not a huge fan of scary or creepy stories.  I’m also not a huge fan of Halloween beyond the fun of coming up with a great costume.  I think I’ve done this before but I’m going to go with finding characters to dress up for as Halloween.  To further put a twist on the list I’m going to select couple characters to dress up as.

Ten couple characters to dress up as for Halloween.

  1. A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) Diana and Matthew:  For this costume, I would pick a scholarly look for Diane or perhaps one of her rowing getups.  Matthew something tailored and a bit formal looking, powerful.
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter, #7) Ron and Hermione: This could be fun all you would need is wizarding robes, wands (Ron’s broken), some books, and perhaps a rat.  You could have Hermione spend the evening outshining Ron and instructing him on how to do magic.
  3. Twilight (Twilight, #1) Bella and Edward: For this costume, I would go with jeans, t-shirt and perhaps a rain jacket for Bella.  Edward could wear anything highly fashionable and use foundation several shades lighter than his skin tone.  I would also mix in some glitter for the sparkle that Meyer’s vampires were known for.  I would also have Edward give a pained expression all night from having to deny himself Bella’s intoxicating blood.
  4. Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) Sookie and Bill: For Sookie I would go with her waitress outfit and Bill could wear something a bit old-fashion and plain.  What would really sell this costume would be to have Bill walk around all night saying Sookie in a southern accent all night.
  5. First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) Charley and Reyes: Charley would be easy in that all she would need is a t-shirt with one of the fun sayings from the beginning of the chapters in the book.  Reyes would be fun if you could find a way to simulate his incorporeal self and go around with a hidden dry ice container to simulate the mist rolling off him.
  6. The Princess Bride Buttercup and Westly: For Buttercup a peasant outfit and Wesley a black pirate costume or he could wear a farm boy outfit and spend the night saying ‘As you wish’.
  7. Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) Mercy and Adam: This couple costume would work for a single woman as well if you owned a dog or you could use a stuffed animal for Adam.  Then Mercy could wear overalls from work or jeans and a t-shirt.
  8. The Time Traveler's Wife Clare and Henry: Another great couple costume that would work for a single or someone whose husband doesn’t want to go to the costume party with his wife…  Anyway,  Clare could dress normally but carry around a set of men’s clothing as Henry had just shifted in time.
  9. Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) Christian and Anastasia: This could be fun for a couple that has low inhibitions.  For Christian, I would have him in a power suit with a red power tie.  Ana, I would have dressed like she was in college and there to interview Christian.  Looking kind of mousey and holding a notepad.
  10. Ready Player One (Ready Player One, #1) Parzival and Art3mis:  For these two you could dress up like their online selves or pick the offline version and wear some sort of virtual reality headgear like they were experiencing the Oasis.

What couple characters do you think would make good Halloween costumes?

Top Ten Tuesday: Spooky Season

Top Ten Tuesday

Welcome to another contribution to the wildly popular Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.  This week they ask us to share lists on the following:

October 25: Halloween related freebie

Some people llloooovvveeee this time of year.  The crisp nights, pumpkin everything, the decorations, spooky stories, trick or treating (candy).  Frankly I can take it or leave it.  I enjoy some of the bats, vamps, and pumpkin flavored goodies.  Scary stories in print or on-screen, however, are not my cup or tea.  I don’t like blood and guts or being scared.  I don’t do situations I can’t control.  So for this week’s list I am going to pick some of the spooky, maybe not scary, stories that still fit into the spirit of the Halloween season.

Ten books for the Halloween Season

  1. Ruined (Ruined, #1)  A good ol’ Ghost story is up first.  This one is set in New Orleans and is a YA read.  It covers the basis if you are looking for this type of spooky story.
  2. Undeadly (The Reaper Diaries, #1) How about a zombie tale.  This one is another YA level read and is one of the very few zombie stories I have read, not really a fan of the whole theme…  This one is good though, give it a shot.
  3. Dracula How about a classic scary story for a change.  Vampires are classic Halloween monsters and this is the book that started it all.
  4. Cycle of the Werewolf Another classic monster for this time of year, the Werewolf.  Also what kind of list would this be without something from the master of scary stories the King himself.
  5. The Hot Zone: The Terrifying True Story of the Origins of the Ebola Virus Looking for something seriously scary and real?  Then I highly recommend this one about the true story of how the Ebola virus started. Truly frightening.
  6. A Dirty Job (Grim Reaper, #1) This was a fun listen about grim reapers.  More funny than scary but still fitting for the season.
  7. The Grownup This was a short little read that was pretty creepy and left you wondering.  Perfect if you don’t want to commit yourself to a longer read.
  8. The Passage (The Passage, #1) Like this one…  If you are sick and tired of the hunky sexy vampire trend then give this one a try.  The vamps in this book are the true monsters of old.
  9. A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) The vampire central to this story however is all kinds of yummy, however.  Quite a bit of this story centers around this time of year and perfect if you are looking for a witchy tale.
  10. California Going to finish the book with a post-apocalyptic dystopian that is a frightening glimpse of what might become of our society if we don’t change things and start taking care of those who are struggling in this country.

Top Ten Tuesday: Halloween Characters

Welcome to another contribution to the wildly popular Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.  This week they ask us to share lists on: October 28: Top Ten Books/Movies To Read Or Watch To Get In The Halloween Spirit OR Top Ten Characters Who I Would Totally Want To Be For Halloween.  I have decided to pick characters that I would like to be for Halloween.  I’m not into scary movies or books, so this is the better option for me.   Perhaps I will even be able to come up with my next few year’s costumes for work!

Ten Characters to go as for Halloween.

  1. Fancy Nancy: Tea Parties (Fancy Nancy)  Fancy Nancy.  This is going to be my costume this year as we hand out treats for the kids at the library.  She is a fun character that is pretty easy to pull together for a costume, just think more is more.
  2. The Undead Pool (The Hollows, #12) Rachel could be fun.  Get some kick-ass boots, leather coat, splat gun (paint-ball) and carry around some charms to invoke.  Of course one of the demons from this world might be fun too, perhaps Newt or Al if you were a guy.
  3. Definitely Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #6)  Pam from the Sookie Stackhouse series.  Had to have one vamp on the list and Pam was always one of my favorites.  You could go all goth like she is at work or pick one of her day off outfits.  Personally I like the day-off ones better,  so fun to picture this tough smart-ass vamp in pink sweater sets.
  4. Acheron (Dark-Hunter, #8)  The dark-hunter world has so much potential for Halloween costumes.  I would probably pick one of the Greek Gods or Simi might be fun with her horns and crazy outfits.
  5. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (The Wicked Years #1) I’ve gone as Elphaba from this story before.  I think I freaked more kids out with my green skin then the year I went as a vamp.
  6. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, #1) If I was a guy Arthur Dent would be an easy costume to pull off.  You could wear almost anything you want and carry around a bath towel along with a copy of the book.
  7. Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) Alright this one has been done before, there are tons of young girls going around as Katniss for Halloween.  Personally I would rather go as one of the citizens from Capital city, their outfits are more fun.
  8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter #7) This is another one that has been done, but might be fun and easily recognizable.  Pick a house and dress in those colors.  After all who didn’t want to be Hermione?
  9. Matched (Matched, #1)  If you happen to have a green ball gown hanging around Cassia would be an easy fun character to dress up as.
  10. Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) If you could find a blue wig and some fake teeth you could easily pull off Karou from this series.
