Good Monday morning everyone. We had some beautiful weather here in Eastern Iowa over the weekend and the husband and I managed to get the rest of the garden planted. I also brought home a new hammock that I hope to spend many hours reading in this summer. Not a lot of reading done this weekend. I gave up on an audiobook that just wasn’t my type of book. I know the dark murder thrillers are all the rage but I’m not a fan. I don’t want to be inside someone’s head as they plan to abduct, rape, and then kill someone. No thank you.
This week is going to be awfully busy. Tomorrow is the primary day in Iowa and I’m in charge of my local polling place so it will be a long slow day. Hey, I might get some reading done. Since I’m in charge though I will be going to pick up everything today and dropping it off on Wednesday before work. Thursday I have a county fair meeting and the last two days will be work, I think, I forgot to write down my schedule for the rest of the week…
Hope the weather is as lovely for you where you are today and have a great week! If you live in Iowa please go out and vote tomorrow. Primaries are even more important than general elections as it decides who gets to run for each seat.
Good Monday morning everyone. Not a lot of reading going on last week, again. Some week I’m going to log on here and regale you all with all the books I managed to finish in the previous week. Last week, however, was not a great week for reading. I had to break my Facebook vacation to seek help after a dog attack on my livestock. I came home from work to find two dogs chasing one of my llamas. A Great Pyrenees the size of a small pony, and a young German Sheppard puppy, had killed one of my roosters, run off all my peafowl, and driven one of my llamas through a five-foot solid fence and over a gate into another pasture. The poor girl was simply terrified and it took 20 minutes to walk her back to her flock after I convinced her to stand up. I held on to the dogs overnight and turned them over to a rescue group the next day. The owners have been found and the dogs returned but they have not stopped to offer to pay for the damage their dogs did. I hope they never come back because next time they come to terrorize my pets my husband is going to shoot them. The animals have recovered and are all returning to normal behaviors. It was a traumatizing couple of days.
By the end of the week, I came down with some bug. Either the flu or a cold all I know is that I feel like crap and it feels like I swallowed broken glass. Today my plan is to sit on the couch, drink tea, and listen to an audiobook while I work on paperwork or knit. I have two books to pick from one over 24 hours and the other just under 7. I might pause the long one and knock out the short one so I feel like I accomplished something reading-wise.
Well, I have probably complained enough. If you follow the blog on Facebook sorry if you’ve missed some posts. Apparently, when I blocked the site during my Facebook vacation it severed my cross-posting ability. I have logged back in and am going to try simply willpower to keep me off FB during my year-long break. That way you can still have links to my posts.
Happy Reading, Amy
Good Monday morning everyone. Another week and weekend passed where I got little to no reading in. On a side note our property is looking fabulous. Our flock of birds grew last Friday and I needed to redo the coop yard. I more than doubled it and put up a higher more secure fence. Some of the birds are still flying out but the surprise bunny now has a secure place to live where the bunny killing barn cat can’t get to him.
Back to reading. I’m enjoying my book when I get a few minutes to read and I have started a new audiobook that expires in three days. I have been leaving my phone in the house while I work because the projects I’m working on could possibly damage the phone. I might risk that today and throw on some headphones and work in the garden because I don’t think I will be able to renew the title. So I hope to bring you at least one review this week.
Happy Reading Everyone!
What a week it has been. Last week when I was typing up this post on Sunday evening I had Cancer and was less than 24 hours away from being diagnosed with it. I’ve probably had it for a few months, if not longer, just didn’t know it yet. Explains quite a bit actually. But this topic is for my other blog What I’m Dealing With and you are welcome to go follow me there if you want to follow my treatment and emotions.
Last week my husband was also off work for the week, will be this one too, at first I was annoyed with his employer because we need the paycheck they decided they decided we didn’t. Because he was off and we need the money we decided to list quite a bit on eBay which took up much of my time last week. I was also feeling like crap, emotionally and physically, so I didn’t feel like doing much after that and went to bed at 8:30 several evenings. We also watched a ton of movies. So many movies that I am now sick and tired of watching movies. I want to read my book. I want the peace and quiet that reading brings, my husband, however, wants to watch two or three or even four movies a day. Today, Christmas, we have managed to only watch one and it has been pure bliss. I managed to make progress in my current read.
I’m not sure if I will get much reading done next week either. I have my appointment in Iowa City and work two days. Husband is also off. I hope to have surgery soon so I imagine I will have lots of time coming up with nothing to do but read. Can we say silver lining? Well I hope you all had a good Christmas and spent time with those you love. Happy Reading!
Good Monday morning everyone, I am actually typing this up and getting it posted in the morning, on Monday! Yay, me. Looks like the husband will be home all week again as the factory where he works decided to do a temp layoff instead of having everyone come in for just three days this week. I believe they did this last year too. Not a huge deal but still kind of sucks. We are going to take this opportunity to do some more repairs around the house and post items to eBay as I also work less this week. That means I might not get a ton of reading done this week. I am going to type up my Top Ten Tuesday next so it is ready to go, sorry for missing last week, I was still dealing with car drama. I have been working on an audiobook while at work as I accomplished non-blog chores and hope to get that reviewed for you this week. I did finish an ARC last week but needed to hold the review until a little closer to the review date.
Anyway, I hope life returns to some resemblance of normal soon so I can get back into the swing of things with the blog and be reading. I hope those of you that celebrate Thanksgiving have a good holiday Thursday and to the rest simply have a great week. Happy reading!
Good Monday morning everyone. I can’t sleep. Woke up around four am and just couldn’t turn my brain off. Probably because I’ve made some tough decisions recently and we are coming up on one of the expensive bill months. Anyway I won’t trouble you anymore with my stress. Last week I didn’t get much reading in at all, which is ironic as we didn’t have internet most of the week. It seems I can find other things to occupy my time even without this little black hole box of lost time. Actually most of the time was spent trying to figure out how to fix the no internet. Then there is the fact that I am struggling to get into The Shadows. The book is better than I thought it would be but the story is just not grabbing me. I am enjoying the audio book I started and hope to get some more listening time in as it will be cooler this week and I plan to get some walking in.
This weekend we went to go see Star Trek Beyond, you can see the review I posted this weekend if you like, pretty much spoiler free. Other than that I am looking at ways to simplify my life. I am giving up some commitments and need to focus on making my weight loss and reading a priority again. I hope to get a review out to you this week but as I am only 150 some pages into my book after a week of reading I wouldn’t hold my breath… Happy reading everyone.
morning everyone…. I know it is almost 9 p.m. and I’m just getting around to posting my weekly check in post. Essentially it has simply been a busy day. I meant to do this first thing this morning but when I went out to feed the birds I noticed there was no wind and we needed to burn trash in the worst way so I did that one chore quickly which lead to another and another and before you know it I’ve cut my husband’s hair, done dishes, a load of laundry and fired up the lawn mower for the first cutting of the year and the blog post is pushed back to after my evening meeting. Still the day is not over yet and I will get a check-in post this week!
Not a lot of reading this weekend, we went to a city-wide garage sale and bird swap on Saturday and I had yet another meeting on Sunday that ended with a quick trip to Aldi’s and hours spent roaming Wal-Mart’s cosmetic’s department as I realized I know nothing about makeup. I’m serious I spent so much time there completely overwhelmed as I tried to figure out what basic makeup I needed to pull together a professional look for BEA. I did get some items but after playing with them this weekend I realize there is some other items I need yet. I don’t wear makeup in my normal life but thought it might be nice to wear for the conference where I’m going to represent the blog. If you know of any good online tutorials, a makeup for middle-aged makeup dummies please share in the comments.
Beyond that not a lot going on besides meetings and more meetings. I’m struggling with the All Iowa Reads for work again. I won’t be reviewing the book here after the drama from last year’s author, but I still need to read it. I must say that author has kind of ruined the whole program for me as I so want to DNF this year’s book. I’m not going to review it, I’m not liking it, I simply don’t want to waste time reading it. Maybe I can suffer through a few more pages and just talk about how it didn’t work for me at the book talk. Such a bad attitude, but I really don’t want to read it. I’m not going to get to count it toward my reading goals or review it on the blog so it just feels like a total waste of time that could be used reading something I actually want to read…
Well that’s about it. I’m sorry today’s post is so late, but life happens sometimes. Have a great week reading and see you tomorrow for Top Ten Tuesday!
morning, um… early afternoon. Yeah, yeah I know I’m late, not that you mind, but some Monday’s are busier than others. This morning I was totally on the ball for house hold chores even getting laundry done before hubby left for work. Along with dishes, animals, mail and eBay stuff, etc. But I did not get around to writing this post up until now, it didn’t help that I was at a loss of topics to post about today.
Not a lot of bookish news. I broke the book buying ban and brought home the next Lynsay Sand’s release that I desperately want to sit down and read. Life has just gotten in the way this weekend, mainly too much noise and husband wanting to watch movies and thrift shop. I also keep visiting two books I have sitting in a Barnes and Noble shopping basket that I keep debating over hitting that check-out button. They are having a sale right now two hardcover books for $30 with free shipping. One book I know I will buy, the other one would be nice to have but I don’t have to have it. Still it is a good deal and I have until the 25th to make up my mind. It doesn’t help that I paid propane and property tax last week and have an income tax appointment next Friday. Still it is only $30 so it probably won’t break the bank just make me feel guilty.
As to the topic this week, organization, I have found myself feeling a little overwhelmed lately. Basically I’m “volunteering” for too much crap and I’m spreading myself a little thin. I have the blog (my hobby), summer reading program at work(not a volunteer situation, but still a responsibility), the creative arts with the fair, our Ebay sales, being a Bernie delegate, the BEA trip, possibly chairing a position for the local Democrats, and all the chores that need to be done at home. I’m constantly feeling like I should be doing something or am falling behind while wasting too much time online. I need to get organized and find a way to keep track of all my responsibilities. I’m thinking a different notebook for each area where I make to-do lists that I go over each day to see what needs to be done and what can wait. Some of these areas overlap or don’t really need a notebook (Creative Art at the fair) so I can probably get away with one for home, blog, work, and democrats. Ebay is technically my hubby’s domain as I just agreed to “help” not run it, he can get his own notebook to keep track of what needs to be done.
Well I bet that was super boring, but it helped me work some stuff out little gold star to those still reading. Thanks for listening and have a great week of reading everyone!
Good Monday morning everyone. Yesterday marked the beginning of a very busy week for me so that means there might not be a Top Ten Tuesday or book review posted this week. I am currently reading an ARC that I would love to finish up this week and then I plan to start some of the books that have been piling up on my to-read book-case. Somewhere in the running around I need to work in baking four doz cookies and reading through the booklet they sent me for the convention I’m attending on Saturday. Hopefully it will be a fast week and things can return to a normal pace next week.
The temps have been warming up here and I pulled the plastic off one window and opened it today. I also hung laundry on the line for the first time. It is fairly windy though and I hope it all stays on the line and doesn’t end up in the muddy garden. The animals have all caught spring fever as well. Barn cat came home with a swollen eye after getting into a fist fight, llamas and horse took a tour of the county last week and the peacock thinks it is mating season and is looking to pick a fight with any reflective surface he can find most notably my truck…
Other than being busy things are alright, dreading the upcoming income tax appointment. Nervous on how that is going to go. Well I need to either start baking cookies or look into scheduling a Top Ten Tuesday post for tomorrow. Mostly it will depend on what the topic is. I hope to have one book review for you later this week. Happy Reading!
Good Monday morning everyone and a good Labor Day to you too! I am going to ask you to take a moment and think about what this holiday means to your life and how we need to continue to support organized labor. Think about what people are working to erode worker’s rights and want to see a country where people work longer hours for less money, less benefits, and less say in our own lives. Do we really want to vote those people into office. Personally I like weekends, fair pay (not that we have that anymore), vacation days, and health care. Alright I’m done with my stump speech on to the books…
Well as it was a three-day weekend and the hubby and I have been running around our county doing fun things together I’ve not had much time to read. So I am still on book two of the Dresden Files. Not going real well either… I will probably give this series two more books to impress me, but if things don’t change pretty damn quick I’m abandoning it for greener pages. I have also found a new indie author to try, and am pretty excited about reading and reviewing her book. The book sounds quite interesting and might even incorporate a few of my personal beliefs into the plot, so I am excited to start it and see where she goes.
Tomorrow is Top Ten Tuesday. I may or may not participate. It depends if I get a chance to schedule a post or not. I am going to be working the polls of our local school election and will need to be there by 6 am, so there is no way in hell I am waking up earlier than I need to so I can post. Hopefully after we spend the day running around I will be able to put together something for tomorrow.
Well Hubby and I are off to spend the day thrift shopping! I hope you all have a great Labor Day and take a moment about what this country would be like if people had not fought for the rights we take for granted.
