Monday Morning Check-In: Over It.

Happy Monday everyone!  Didn’t get my post written this morning because I needed to clean my chicken coop and do some other chores.  So let’s talk about the elephant in the blog, shall we?  I seem to be slowing down in my reading and posts.  I’m not sure what is up and why I’m not into reading currently but I don’t seem to be doing as much of it.  I wonder if the pressure to create content killed my interest or if it was something else but I simply have not been putting in the time and effort needed to make this book review blog a success.  And you know what? That’s alright.  This is not a job. No one is paying me.  I am only accountable to myself and my followers.  So I think this is what I’m going to do.  I’m going to take the pressure off even further.  I’m going to take a break from Net Galley, which is my current source of stress related to the blog.  It helps that I haven’t found anything I’m super excited about in a while over there so when I finish up my three books up for review  I’m going to take an extended break from Net Galley.  Sure it is a lot of fun to read a book before others get to but it isn’t like I can’t read the book later.  I do work at a library so it isn’t even like I would have to buy all the books I want to read I can simply borrow them from my library or another.  I just find myself over Net Galley.  I simply want to read a book because I’m interested in it and not because I owe a publisher a review by release day.  2019 is going to be the year I try to rekindle my love of reading by reading whatever the hell I like and not worry if it is current or relevant.  I might spend a month reading nothing but Star Trek novels or pick up a really old series I’ve never tried.  Explore genres or take a month and read nothing at all.  I’m not going to sign up for Goodreads pledge either, well I might say I’ll read one book and just use it to record how many I do finish next year.  I do want the pretty little badge for my profile after all.  I do plan to continue posting for Top Ten Tuesday because I enjoy the challenge and I will probably still post a weekly update but the monthly recaps will disappear if I haven’t finished any books that month.  I hope you all don’t mind but I simply don’t want the pressure in committing to more.  I just feel like the blog has gotten a little stale and might think of some other types of posts I can deliver to you all.  I have been toying with doing a Wish bookish haul like the videos on YouTube.  If that sounds like something you’d enjoy leave a comment and let me know.  Or leave a link to something you saw on Wish that you would like to see reviewed.  Have a great week everyone!  Happy reading.

Good morning everyone!  Welcome to another great year of reading. You may have noticed things look a little different here at Read What I Like.  I decided a new year deserved a new look.  I really like how things are set up now and hope you do too.  I have a new landing page, as I like to think of it, where you will find information about the current month of reading and any blog news about events that are coming up.  I have cleaned things up a bit and feel that the new look is a lot fresher and more streamlined.  The background color and header might change with my mood, but most of the pages and other structure will probably stay this way for at least a year or longer.

2014 was a very good year of reading for me I managed to read the most books ever, for myself, and surpassed my page count by 2722 pages! This year I am going to take the pressure off and pledged to read only 104 books or two a week.  I am planning on reading some longer titles and will be curious to see what my page count will be next December.

I am also introducing a new idea for the blog, a monthly reading theme.  This month is it going to be the month of George R.R. Martin.  I have the first three books in his A Song of Ice and Fire series and hope to make it through those three.  Each one comes in around 800 to 1000 pages, so they are going to be the only books I commit to reading this month.  That might leave me a little shy on reviews, but I will still have three weekly meme posts for you all.  I might turn the Thursday Thought to a reflection on my progress on my current read in the series.   If I get through the first three books and am still hooked I might continue with the fourth and fifth book too.  Then again I might take a break and read something a little lighter between books.  I also have a non-fiction Net Galley book to read and review before February.

There will be an ARC review coming this month and an amazing giveaway, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.  Well off we go into another year of reading.  I haven’t been searching for a new series or title to be excited about and hope to find a new favorite soon. Feel free to share your suggestions of books you loved in the comments.  Perhaps you can inspire me.

Happy Friday!

Just wanted to drop in and wish everyone a happy Friday.  My reading has slowed down, agreed to review a non-fiction book about animals and research scientist are doing to prove they have emotions and think.  Any pet owner knows this already, but apparently the scientific community has had its doubts…  The book is good, but slowing me way down with all the history of research and such.  This is what I get for trying to expand my horizons.  I keep telling myself its good for me…

I also wanted to remind everyone that I will be sharing the free books I find over on my Facebook Page for the blog.  Hop on over and give me a like!  Read What I Like Blog.  If any of you have a Facebook page that you want to share feel free to post the link in the comments.  I’m happy to jump on over and check it out too.

Have a great weekend and I hope to have another book review for you soon!
