Goodread’s Amy’s Year in Books
Looking Back – Month:
Okay, so I listened to more books than I actually read last month. Not a big surprise there. In the beginning of the month I was working on Christmas decorations at work and played a couple of books then. Then I was diagnosed with cancer while husband had a couple of weeks off so I didn’t get much physical reading done. All of the books I actually read, though, were by John Scalzi as I work through the Old Man War series. I might have finished the fourth book yesterday if my audio book wasn’t due in seven hours with seven hours left to listen too… I am quite into this series and have managed to get my hands on all the books so I hope to finish the series this month. It looks like my taste in stories have changed too. With the stress and everything I haven’t been in the mood for fluffy romances or vampires. I hope to return to some of those series eventually but if I need the science fiction to escape right now that’s what I’m going to read.
Looking Back – Year:
Goodreads tells me I read 67 books last year. Not awful, but still one of my slower years. What can I say, I just didn’t feel like reading much last year. I still blame my shifting taste in books and the fact that I really need to get bifocals, but those will just have to wait until I recover from my surgery. I have officially converted and enjoy audiobooks now. I have even learned that I enjoy listening to them at a slightly faster speed too. Solves the problem of my mind wandering while the book is read to me. Available selection is still an issue but it is forcing me to try new things genre wise.
I signed up to read 52 books for the Goodreads reading challenge. I am only going to commit to reading one book a week but with the upcoming surgery and possibly being off work recovering for six weeks I hope to read much more. I am going to continue to listen to audiobooks and be selective on my requests over at Net Galley, sticking to only titles that I am really interested in or have a history with the author. I am going to work on my to-read bookcase in my bedroom and see how many of those titles I can work through. With current health issues I am facing I’m not going to push it blog wise either. No new challenges or blog features, I’m going to stick to my Monday Morning Check-In, Top Ten Tuesday, & Month in Review with occasional Bookish Thoughts. I hope with the increased reading I can bring you more actual book reviews in 2017. I’m going to focus on reading what I like and not worry about meeting goals or quotas. In January I hope to finish up the Old Man’s War series and read a couple of review books I have. After that I’m just going to look at my bookcase and see what I’m in the mood for. 2017 is going to be the year of no pressure.
