Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Villains

Top Ten Tuesday

Welcome to another contribution to the wildly popular Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.  This week they ask us to share lists on the following:

October 4:  All About The Villains: top ten favorite/most compelling villains in books, top ten of the most vile villains/bad guys in books, top ten villains I secretly (or not so secretly) love, favorite tv villains, favorite comic book villains, ten “villains” of contemporary lit.

This week’s list might be challenging.  I know most stories have designated “bad-guys”, but are they really?  Ms. Kenyon has taught me one thing, quite often in life (and stories), good and evil is a matter of perspective.  Well written characters have a rich and complex back story and like in life most people do not consider themselves a villain.  Life is created from cause and effect, those who do villainous actions have reasons for taking their actions.  We deem them evil because of the perspective we are coming from in the story.  If we had witnessed events unfolding from their POV we might consider the situation flipped and call the hero a villain.  Of course there are simply rotten people out there in the world who do revel in creating chaos in the world but most of the time people and characters are simply trying to deal with the cards dealt to them.  My list is going to be of characters from either books or TV that I have a soft spot for.

Ten “villains” that I kinda dig.

Well this sucks.  I can’t get Goodreads to load properly and without that site I can’t do this week’s list…  I simply can’t remember the titles or characters off the top of my head so I won’t be posting a list this week.  If the site starts loading I might come back and revise this post to share my favorite villains.  Off the top of my head I was going to share: Styxx from Dark-Hunter series, Nick from Dark-Hunter Series, Rumpelstiltskin from Once Upon a Time, The Evil Queen from Once Upon a Time, Eric from Sookie Stackhouse series. and five more that I planned to seek-out from my read shelf.  Hopefully it comes back soon but I can’t wait any longer for the site to start working again.
