Book Synopsis:

Gideon Cross. Falling in love with him was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. It happened instantly. Completely. Irrevocably.

Marrying him was a dream come true. Staying married to him is the fight of my life. Love transforms. Ours is both a refuge from the storm and the most violent of tempests. Two damaged souls entwined as one.

We have bared our deepest, ugliest secrets to one another. Gideon is the mirror that reflects all my flaws … and all the beauty I couldn’t see. He has given me everything. Now, I must prove I can be the rock, the shelter for him that he is for me. Together, we could stand against those who work so viciously to come between us.

But our greatest battle may lie within the very vows that give us strength. Committing to love was only the beginning. Fighting for it will either set us free … or break us apart.

My Review:

I think Ms. Day’s own word in the author’s note sums up how I’m feeling after finishing the Crossfire Series.  Bittersweet.  From the other reviews I glanced at I see that people either loved this book or hated it.  I fall into the camp of loved it.  Some of the other reviewer’s points are valid there are some plot threads left unresolved such is life deal.  Other were total BS like hating how she extended the series from three to five books, its her world and her story to tell get over it.  Anyway.  Personally I was satisfied with the ending and happy to see Gideon and Eva start a beautiful life together.  I wish we could continue to be a part of it but quite frankly these two deserve some privacy and a drama free H.E.A.  I wish them the best.

Like its predecessors this book had plenty of drama, sex and moved at a lightning pace.  It also wasn’t all wrapping up of plot lines there were some new mysteries that popped up as well.  The beginning of the book was remarkably sex-free and it was interesting to see these two learn to interact without that element of their relationship.  Of course they couldn’t hold out for too long and this book was as steamy as the four before it prepare for lots of blushing if you read in public.  For me the most satisfying part of this book was watching these people come together and build a family.

These erotic novels get a bad wrap from some people who look down their noses at all the sex, type of sex, or type of relationship the two leads have.  Personally, knowing it is just fiction and an escape, I enjoy these romances.  I kept asking myself why though.  Why am I drawn to Gideon and Eva’s world.  After all I’m a happily married woman of almost 21 years that has a very comfortably and probably typical relationship with her husband.  I think the appeal is that for a short while we can feel what it was like to be all caught up in a new relationship.  The dizzying emotions that come with falling in love.  I know you can get that in a “healthy” (boring) romance too, but the intensity of a book like this can make the rush addictive.  Who wouldn’t want to be the center of someone’s universe, to know that they can’t live without you.  That they would do anything for you and can’t keep their hands off you.  It is nice to escape from time to time and read what it might be like.  Thank you Ms. Day for sharing Gideon and Eva’s story with us.  It was beautiful.

My Rating: 5 Stars
