Book Synopsis:

In a place where ecstasy can cost you your life . . .

She’s a demon-slayer who hungers for sensual pleasure-but fears it will always be denied her. Until Tayla Mancuso lands in a hospital run by demons in disguise, and the head doctor, Eidolon, makes her body burn with unslakable desire. But to prove her ultimate loyalty to her peers, she must betray the surgeon who saved her life.

Two lovers will dare to risk all.

Eidolon cannot resist this fiery, dangerous woman who fills him with both rage and passion. Not only is she his avowed enemy, but she could very well be the hunter who has been preying upon his people. Torn between his need for the truth and his quest to find his perfect mate before a horrific transformation claims him forever, Eidolon will dare the unthinkable-and let Tayla possess him, body and soul . . .

My Review:

I do own the print version of this book, but needed an audio book for working outside being in the mood for a romance I decided to go with this one.  I not quite sure how I feel about listening to an erotic-ish romance while putzing around in the yard, but the story was good and I quickly got over my bashfulness over what was being read (took me three tries to figure out something that didn’t sound smutty there…) over the earphones to me.  As with other audio books I feel like I have probably missed part of the story in those moments when my mind either wandered or focused on the task at hand.  With this story I’m glad I own the print version of the book and may actually read it someday.

This is the first in a fairly long run and popular series.  I have picked up several of the books at thrift stores and from what I feel after listening to this book I don’t think I wasted my money.  The world was interesting and reminded me of several other I enjoy.  Right off the bat Alexandra Ivy, Laura Wright, and Lara Adrian come to mind, there are probably more I could come up with but those are my top three.  If you enjoy any of those authors you will probably enjoy this one too.

This book definitely falls into the erotic branch of the romance genre, but quite frankly there wasn’t anything too graphic or taboo about the sex scenes.  If you aren’t too prudish then this one probably won’t bother you either.  I’m going to call it an erotic novel just from the frequency aspect alone.  The two leads spent a lot of time in the sheets or against the wall or…. you get what I mean.  I’m thinking it comes with the territory when you think of what type of demon Eidolon is.

Now it has been done before, but I always enjoy it when the humans are playing the ‘bad guys’ in a story.  I like my paranormal characters to be the good guys and not actual monsters.  The heroine Tayla got on my nerves a bit in the beginning, and some spots in the middle, but by the end when she got her head out of her ass I quite liked her.  I think she and Eidolon will be quite happy and are a good match.  The supporting characters caught my interest as well and I look forward to watching them get paired up in future books.

This is an interesting new world to explore and I feel like I missed so much by listening to it during such a busy week.  I look forward to the next book even if I might not get to it for some time.  As to the artist narrating the story I think they made a good choice and she did a nice job of alternating her tone for the different characters.  Over all a good listen and plot.

My Rating: 3 Stars (Probably would have been higher if I had read it and paid better attention)
