Welcome to another contribution to the wildly popular blog meme, Top Ten Tuesday.  This week they ask us to share lists on:

November 17: Top Ten Quotes I Loved From Books I Read In The Past Year Or So

Now I am excited to share with you some of my favorite lines from the books I’ve loved over the year I must confess that it usually needs to be a pretty remarkable quote for me to even remember the line.  I’ve always been so impressed by those that can quote literature in conversation, but sadly I am not one of those people… But, fortunately for me and probably many of you the good people over at Goodreads have lists of popular quotes that are easily search through by book or author.  So lets see what clever, funny, or poignant lines I can pull from the books I’ve read this year.  Yep. The Martian is going to be on the list, promise to keep it to one quote though.  Now, shall we begin? (what line is that from? 10 points to those who can tell me in the comments)   Ooo, that give me a great idea!!!  Lets play a game.  I’ll post the covers of the books I pull quotes from and then you can match up the lines to the books in the comments.

Top ten lines I loved from books I’ve read this year.

  1. “Sooner or later the Narrative will come for each of us.”

  2. “Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.”

  3. “After all these years, I see that I was mistaken about Eve in the beginning; it is better to live outside the Garden with her than inside it without her.”

  4. “If a hiker gets lost in the mountains, people will coordinate a search. If a train crashes, people will line up to give blood. If an earthquake levels a city, people all over the world will send emergency supplies. This is so fundamentally human that it’s found in every culture without exception. Yes, there are assholes who just don’t care, but they’re massively outnumbered by the people who do.”

  5. “How impossible, though, to turn one’s back on all the horrors in the world; there had to be another way to live.”

  6. “Every new event—everything I did for the rest of my life—would only separate us more and more: days she was no longer a part of, an ever-growing distance between us. Every single day for the rest of my life, she would only be further away.”

  7. “Money is not the secret to happiness,”

  8. “I know not with what weapons World War Three will be fought. But I know that World War Four will be fought with sticks and stones.”

  9. “GOD GIVES US ONLY WHAT WE CAN HANDLE. APPARENTLY, GOD THINKS I’M A BADASS. —BUMPER STICKER”

  10. “…her dearest friends are characters in books.”
