Book #0.1 in the Throne of Glass series : Publish 1/13/12
I borrowed this book electronically from my library for the #ReadingMyLibrary Challenge, saving me $1.99
On a remote island in a tropical sea, Celaena Sardothien, feared assassin, has come for retribution. She’s been sent by the Assassin’s Guild to collect on a debt they are owed by the Lord of the Pirates. But when Celaena learns that the agreed payment is not in money, but in slaves, her mission suddenly changes—and she will risk everything to right the wrong she’s been sent to bring about.
I was encouraged by another blogger to read the novellas (Hey Krystal!) before I continued on with the next book in the series. I noticed all the novellas were available in e-format from one of the libraries I belong to, so I decided to go ahead and take her advice since it fit into this month’s library read challenge.
Not a lot to say about the first prequel. I liked it, didn’t love it as much as Throne of Glass, but still I’m glad I read it. It does give some interesting insight to Celaena’s personality and character. We also get to meet Sam, who is only mentioned in book one (for obvious reasons if you’ve read the book). I am looking forward to seeing how this relationship develops.
In the next few novellas I hope we learn more about Celaena’s pre-assassin life and more about the head of the guild. This was a quick read, but I tried to tackle it while in the middle of another story and that always slows me down. On to #0.2 which is an even shorted story and can only be found in The Assassin’s Blade currently.
