Monday Morning Question: More than one?

Good Monday morning everyone!  I’m falling behind again.  I’m going to blame it on all the work I am doing for promoting my husband’s book.  I didn’t read anything this weekend.  So after I post this the tv and computer are going off and I am going to get lost in my current read.  I have some Net Galley books that I need to get around to reading too.  Went to my bag of already thought up generic questions that I have on hand for this morning’s question.  My husband and several patrons at my library can read several books all at the same time. So I ask do you read more than one book at a time?  How many?

Myself I can’t, or don’t like to, read more than one book at a time.  Sometimes I can read a non-fiction along with what I am reading, but even then it doesn’t seem to work very well for me. I always end up reading one of the titles and then starting on the other one.  I tend to read a lot of series and I just don’t care to switch worlds in the middle.  I also think it tends to slow me down, beyond the normal distractions of everyday life that is.  It may sound blasphemous, but I don’t even like to go hang out in a book store for hours and check out new books when I’m in the middle of a good book.  My husband could just spend hours sitting in the cafe and reading the different titles he finds, but I just can’t do it.  I usually bring my Nook or find what I am reading and continue that story.  Now I do look around at what is one sale and such, but after about 30 minutes I’m done and ready to go.

How about you?  Do you read more than one book at a time?

Just a reminder I am giving away a signed copy of my husband’s book, Crack in the Curtain.    You can enter over on the Giveaway page, top link in the menu on the right.  Entry ends this Saturday Sept 20, 2014 8 a.m.

  1. Oh man, I’m ALWAYS reading more than one book at a time. Typically I’ve got at least one fiction, one non-fiction, and one audiobook going, but sometimes I add to that an ebook and/or more fiction. I’m crazy I know, haha, but I’m such a mood reader that I just like to jump around a lot!

    1. I think there is something to be said for it being a personality difference. One patron asked if when reading a newspaper article do I go and continue the story right away when it is broken up? He said that he doesn’t, he just continues reading and finishes the story when he gets to it. I don’t I always flip to the page and finish the article. I’m thinking it might have something to do with my control freak tendencies.

  2. I am almost always reading more than one book nowadays. It’s weird, because I didn’t use to. But now that I have an ereader, I usually binge on ebooks during the day and read my paperbacks at night. That way, my paperbacks last longer. I have like 1 paperback for every 4-5 ebooks, so I need to savour them! I think my maximum is 3 books though, otherwise my tiny brain cell can’t compute.
