Night Broken by Patricia Briggs – 4 Stars

Check out this book’s description on Goodreads.

Received a copy of this to read from Penguin’s First to Read program, I’ll tell you more about this program in my next post. This series has been on my to-read shelf for a while now and when I saw the latest release up on their site for the program I moved it up on my priority list. So two weeks ago I started with book one and was hooked! I zipped through them all, most only taking 24 hours to read. I love paranormal/fantasy books but tend to favor Vamps over Weres in most of my picks. This series makes me think I have been missing out and I will definitely be picking up more stories centered around werewolves. Bravo Ms Briggs on a complex and enthralling world you have created I have so enjoyed living in it for the past two weeks.

Now for this book’s review. It was an amazing read and an excellent addition to the series. Full of everything I have come to expect out of the events surrounding Mercy’s life. She is never going to have to worry about Coyote leaving her because she definitely lead an interesting life! Much of this book centered around the drama that Christy,  Adam’s ex-wife, brings to the pack along with some major trouble that of course only Mercy, with help of Coyote, can defeat. Much of the book I spent wishing Mercy wasn’t such a good person and would haul of and just deck Christy.  I never doubted that this would not come between Adam and Mercy but it would have been nice if more pack members could have had Mercy’s back. Many favorite characters show up in the book from Ben and Stefan to Tad and even one Walking Stick that I have grown quite fond of. The book felt like it ended quite abruptly to me, like there was more to be resolved, but I’m sure it will all be addressed in future books. Ms. Briggs does a wonderful job of weaving story lines and threads from book to book leaving while still making each book feel complete. If you are new to the series I would suggest starting at the beginning thou, the tales follow a timeline that makes more sense if read in order.

This was and ARC (Advance Reader’s Copy) book that I received, it comes out March 11, 2014.

  1. Okay, this time I mean it. I’m going to have to try Patricia Briggs again. I read one a long time ago and it didn’t click, but it might have been a bad day or phase of the moon. Too many reviewers I trust -like you- are in her corner. Thanks.

    1. The first one maybe wasn’t the best of the bunch, but I finished all 8 of her Mercy Thompson books in under two weeks. I almost liked her spin off series better though, Alpha and the Omega. I suggest reading the books from both series in order of printing. It is the same world and characters and events from both series are going on at the same time in both. After I finished the second series that is how I wish I had read them. I hope you enjoy your second attempt at reading them better than the first :). Amy

  2. Hurray for another Mercy fan! I agree, I was wishing Mercy would just slap Christy at some points (okay, not really… Mercy has more patience than I do, that’s for sure!). I love the Alpha & Omega books as well, and can’t wait for more!

    1. I was so obsessed with this series in January and February, now we have to wait again. Oh the agony of being a loyal reader/fan of a series. Enjoyed your review!
